Responsibilities:
As the Editor-in-Chief, you will be entrusted with the following key responsibilities:
- Development of a captivating editorial strategy that encompasses a wide range of subjects, with a special focus on gender-related sexual health issues.
- Ensuring a consistent flow of high-quality review articles to meet the publication schedules, overseeing the peer-review process, and making informed manuscript decisions.
- Collaborating with the editorial team to assemble compelling content for the publication of four issues per year.
- Playing a pivotal role in appointing other members of the editorial team, fostering a dynamic and talented group.
- Actively promoting the journal at conferences and establishing valuable connections within the field to identify potential authors and reviewers.
- Chairing Editorial Board meetings and maintaining excellent communication with Editorial Board Members and authors.
- Collaborating closely with the Managing Editor's office and periodically liaising with the publisher.
- Monitoring journal performance, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing appropriate actions to enhance the journal's impact and reputation.
- Upholding the highest editorial standards, ensuring the integrity and quality of published content.
Requirements:
To be considered for this prestigious role, applicants should possess the following qualifications:
- Postgraduate qualification/experience (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in sexual medicine, endocrinology, psychiatry, urology, andrology, gynecology, psychology or a related discipline with an appreciation for sexual function and dysfunction of all genders in order to maintain a balance of content.
- Proven experience as a subject thought-leader with a significant number of publications.
- Previous editorial experience, such as serving on editorial boards or as an Associate Editor, Deputy Editor, or Editor-in-Chief of scientific journals in the field.
- Familiarity with editorial and peer review processes, demonstrating strong analytical and critical appraisal skills.
- Excellent communication, influencing, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
- Active membership in the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM).
Term and Compensation:
The Editor-in-Chief will serve an initial 3-year term, with the potential for a 5-year extension based on evaluation by the ISSM Publication Committee and ISSM Executive Committee. The term is expected to commence on October 1, 2024. An honorarium commensurate with the responsibilities and importance of the role will be provided.
