Purpose
The mission of the committee is to recommend and/or review proposed changes to the Code of Standards or to advice in cases ethical matters arise within the Society.
Responsible for:
The ISSM Ethics Committee is responsible for the following programs/ initiatives:
- Drafting an Ethical Vision Statement
- Provide consultation to the Executive Committee on questions of scientific and personal conduct/misconduct of the ISSM members
Committee members have quarterly online meetings and are expected to actively contribute and advise on ethical matters that may arise within the Society.
For the term 2025-2026 the work of the committee will mostly focus on the review and publication of a new Code of Standards for the society.
In addition, committee members may be asked to contribute to a bi-annual report (mid-term and end of the year), prepared by the committee chair for review by the President and ISSM Board.

Professor Geoffrey Hackett was a consultant in Urology at University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation trust from 1994 – 2020 and Professor of Sexual Medicine at Aston University Birmingham since 2017. He works as a Consultant in Urology and sexual Medicine at Spire Hospital, Little Aston, Birmingham.
He was also as a primary care physician for 34 years from 1978-2012. Professor Hackett was Chairman of the British Society for Sexual Medicine from 2005–2007 and has been on the Scientific Committee of the European Society for Sexual Medicine from 2003–2009, Executive Committee of ESSM from 2015-2017 and the International Society for Sexual Medicine Educational Committee 2009-2012.
The Author of 160 original papers, 4 textbook, and 16 book chapters on sexual medicine, Professor Hackett received the Zorgniotti-Newman Prize in 2012 at the International Society for Sexual Medicine’s World Meeting on Sexual Medicine in Chicago for his work on testosterone deficiency in Type 2 diabetes. He is a past winner of the Duke of Edinburgh Prize for Sports Medicine in 1992 and the Charles Oliver Hawthorne Clinical Prize from the British Medical Association for original research in 1986. His major areas of interest are the links between erectile dysfunction, testosterone deficiency, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular and diabetic risk.

Miguel Alfredo Rivero was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After receiving his medical degree with an Award of Honour, Dr. Rivero completed his residency in general surgery in Buenos Aires. Later he held a fellowship in Andrology at the University Hospital of Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany. He is Member of several societies: Argentine Medical Association (AMA), Argentine Society of Urology (SAU), Argentine Society of Andrology (SAA), American Confederation of Urology (CAU), American Urological Association (AUA), International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) and Latin American Society for Sexual Medicine (SLAMS) with an active participation in most of them. Dr. Rivero is the recipient of several Awards. He has been the author or coauthor of a number of journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Rivero is the Co-Editor of the Book (in Spanish) “Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of the Erectile Dysfunction” (2019 - University of Buenos Aires).
