Purpose
The mission of the committee is to recommend and/or review proposed changes to the Code of Standards or to advice in cases ethical matters arise within the Society.
Responsible for:
The ISSM Ethics Committee is responsible for the following programs/ initiatives:
- Drafting an Ethical Vision Statement
- Provide consultation to the Executive Committee on questions of scientific and personal conduct/misconduct of the ISSM members
Committee members have quarterly online meetings and are expected to actively contribute and advise on ethical matters that may arise within the Society.
For the term 2025-2026 the work of the committee will mostly focus on the review and publication of a new Code of Standards for the society.
In addition, committee members may be asked to contribute to a bi-annual report (mid-term and end of the year), prepared by the committee chair for review by the President and ISSM Board.

He is currently: Pro-Rector of Postgraduate Studies, Research and Innovation and Full Professor of Urology at the FMABC University Center, Director, member of the clinical staff and urologist at the H Ellis Institute; Editor-Emeritus of the International Brazilian Journal of Urology and Einstein (São Paulo). He was President of the International Society of Sexual Medicine (2000-2002), President of the Brazilian Society of Urology (2006-2007) and President of the Latin American Society of Sexual Medicine (2011-2015). Founder and President of the Brazilian Association for the Study of Impotence (1989-1991). He is a Full Member of the São Paulo Academy of Medicine (10/30/2024) of chair no. 126,

Dr. Barbara Chubak is an Associate Professor of Urology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of sexual dysfunction for all adult patients, regardless of sex, gender, orientation, or comorbidity. Her clinical practice, research, and teaching are interdisciplinary and patient-centered, informed by the history of medicine and bioethics to address the genital health needs of populations who have been historically marginalized and underserved. She is an active member of many professional organizations, including the Royal Society of Medicine, where she serves as treasurer for the Council on Sexuality and Sexual Health, and the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, for which she is Chair of the Female Sexual Function Committee.

Dr. Giuseppe La Pera is a specialist in Urology and Andrology based in Rome, Italy. Throughout his extensive career, he has focused on male genital surgery and has conducted significant research in prostate diseases, sexual disorders, male infertility and male sexuality. Dr. La Pera has served as the head of the Andrology Unit at the San Camillo Forlanini Hospital in Rome Italy, performing thousands of surgeries on the male genital apparatus. He has also gained international experience, working at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. An author of over 100 scientific publications, Dr. La Pera has taught at prominent universities, including Rome, Pisa, Naples, and Trieste. He is honored to serve on the Ethics Committee of the International Society for Sexual Medicine, where he collaborates with esteemed colleagues from around the world to uphold and promote the highest ethical standards in the field.

Miguel Rivero

Miguel Alfredo Rivero was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After receiving his medical degree with an Award of Honour, Dr. Rivero completed his residency in general surgery in Buenos Aires. Later he held a fellowship in Andrology at the University Hospital of Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany. He is Member of several societies: Argentine Medical Association (AMA), Argentine Society of Urology (SAU), Argentine Society of Andrology (SAA), American Confederation of Urology (CAU), American Urological Association (AUA), International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) and Latin American Society for Sexual Medicine (SLAMS) with an active participation in most of them. Dr. Rivero is the recipient of several Awards. He has been the author or coauthor of a number of journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Rivero is the Co-Editor of the Book (in Spanish) “Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of the Erectile Dysfunction” (2019 - University of Buenos Aires).

Dr. Tsujimura had been graduated from Hyogo Medial College in 1988 and well trained in the Department of Urology, Osaka University Hospital and its affiliated hospitals. After finishing general training, he has been working on erectile dysfunction, male infertility and prostate diseases in Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine. He got Ph.D. degree for the publication on andrology and biochemistry area (Biochemical Journal) in 1998. He had been at New York University Medical School of New York, New York as a research fellow from 1998 to 2000. Moreover, he has made remarkable achievements in male infertility, erectile dysfunction and prostate research. He moved to Juntendo University in 2014 and now is working at the Department of Urology, Juntendo University Urayasu Hospital. He is currently contributing to the development of this area in Japan as the president of The Japan Society of Andrology, the vice President of Japan Society for Reproductive Medicine and the vice President of the Japanese Society for Sexual Medicine.

Professor Katarzyna Wac, Ph.D., is a Full Professor of Information Systems at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, where she leads the Quality of Life Technologies lab. She is also an Invited Professor of Health Informatics at the Department of Computer Science (DIKU) at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. She has been affiliated with Stanford University and the Stanford Medical Centre since 2013. The QoL lab, established in 2010, aims to responsibly leverage daily life data sources to improve the quality of life of all individuals. The QoL lab's research interests include fundamental and algorithmic problems, as well as human-centric challenges related to the assessment and improvement of human behavior, health, and quality of life as they unfold naturally over time and in context. Her most recent research project focuses on designing digital endpoints of sexual health and is conducted in collaboration with Stanford University.
