Scientific Review Committee

Committee members have quarterly online meetings, although the individual subcommittees meet more regularly on a monthly or bimonthly basis.

Committee members are expected to actively advice on and contribute to the selection of topics for systematic reviews, and the recruitment of subcommittee members to carry out the review.

Review projects expected to be active during the 2025-2026 term include:

•         Mindfulness and Sexual Health

•         Safety and Efficacy of Injection Therapies for Erectile Dysfunction

•         Other projects to be decided on

In addition, committee members may be asked to contribute to a bi-annual report (mid-term and end of the year), prepared by the committee chair for review by the President and ISSM Board.

Joana Carvalho, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and assistant professor of Psychology at the University of Aveiro (Portugal). Carvalho is credited as a specialist in clinical psychology, forensic psychology, and sexology, by the Portuguese Board of Psychologists. She is the principal investigator of the Research Group in Human Sexuality and a member of the executive board of the Centre for Psychology at Porto University. Carvalho coordinates the Sexual Behavior and Health Lab at the University of Aveiro, where she conducts research on the cognitive and emotional factors underpinning sexual response and functioning. She is the current president of the Portuguese Society of Clinical Sexology.

Mr Don Lee, MBChB PhD FRACS (he/him) is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Andrologist at University College London Hospital (United Kingdom). His practice encompasses all aspects of male sexual health including erectile dysfunction, male infertility and Peyronie’s disease. He has a specialist interest in complex penile prosthetic surgery and penile reconstruction (phalloplasty) for gender affirmation surgery and those assigned male at birth.
He serves as the Chair of the European Society for Sexual Medicine Subcommittee for Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery and sits on the Executive Committee of the British Society for Sexual Medicine.

Paul Yong, MD, PhD, FRCSC is a gynecologist and research director at the British Columbia Women's Centre for Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis, and Associate Professor, Dept of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Dr. Yong holds a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain, and leads a research program on endometriosis-associated pain with a focus on dyspareunia.

Dr. Saleh Binsaleh MD, FRSCS, is a Professor of Urology, Head of Andrology unit at the department of surgery, Faculty of Medicine, King Saud University. Dr. Saleh is the program director of King Saud University Andrology Fellowship Training Program, He is a member of many regional and international societies including AUA, EAU, ISSM, ESSM. He is the Chairman and founding member of Saudi Society of Men's health (SSMH). Dr. Binsaleh got his bachelor’s degree from King Saud University in 2000, and urology residency training at McGill University, Canada from 2000 to 2005.
